Leipzig regional Fire Service Technical Centre: hygiene comes first
The TopClean M mask cleaning machine achieves the highest standards in the respiratory protective equipment workshop
833 – 502 – 12...and one man. That is the Fire Service Technical Centre in Borna, Leipzig region, in numbers. The one man is Olaf Fernys. He and a colleague have plenty to do every day just outside Leipzig: maintaining 833 BA masks and 502 regulators from 12 towns and districts. Not to mention, his remit includes a vehicle carrying masks, compressed air cylinders and hazmat suits. Olaf Fernys works tirelessly. Results are far more important to him than time constraints, ‘Here, we work to provide our colleagues with perfectly hygienic respiratory protective equipment. Quality is what counts for us,’ he hits the nail on the head.
Mr Fernys believes this is what the MEIKO TopClean M brings to the table. The centre already used a machine, but one that was not solely developed for the job. That machine has now been replaced by one which was specially designed for respiratory protective equipment technicians.
‘Finally, we can now clean BA masks, regulators and harnesses in one machine.’
And it is not just the high quality of the results. Olaf Fernys also likes that the machine filters its own wash water before use, ‘Alongside the cleaning and disinfection machine for respiratory protective equipment, we also purchased a MEIKO GiO MODULE. The water is demineralised and we don't see any water marks on the masks later on,’ he explains.
When masks are returned from assignments with one of the twelve fire services, they come in a bag that allows the gases to be released where they pose no threat to humans. Depending how dirty they are, they can then go into the TopClean M cleaning and disinfection machine for respiratory protective equipment.
‘You can tell what quality of clean the machine is able to deliver, if nothing else, by looking at the regulators – the tubes on them are just as black as when they were new, even after many wash cycles. That means that the equipment is being cleaned very well but not worn down.’
